![]() ![]() The Tiger Academic Strategist Program is managed by the SASS Learning Specialist who is involved in hiring, training, and supervising the Academic Strategists and assists students by serving as a liaison between Auburn’s Office of Accessibility and the student’s academic team. All members of the Academic Team, including the Learning Specialist, Academic Counselor, Tutors, and Academic Strategists work together to monitor and encourage success in the classroom. The Academic Strategist will assist the student with study and learning skills, including but not limited to time management, organization, memorization techniques, reading and comprehension, note taking, test taking, and other appropriate study methods as needed. Students in the program are assigned an Academic Strategist to work with them individually as needed. The Tiger Academic Strategist Program supports students who have education impacting disabilities, as well as those who benefit from individualized academic support, such as identified freshmen and those experiencing academic difficulties. The Tiger Academic Strategist Program is designed for any student-athlete who has a history of academic challenges or who needs academic assistance in the transition from high school to Auburn University.Ī major tenet of the program is to meet each student where they are academically, and to provide each individual student with what he or she needs to be successful. Academic Counselors notify student athletes as to how many hours/objectives are required each week. Study Table is required for all incoming freshmen and other upperclassmen, dependent upon GPA and each Counselor's decision. This year, we have introduced a Virtual Study Table option along with the in-person Study Table Program. Students should be prepared to attend study table with a daily academic work plan or specific tasks to be completed. Study Table is a means to complete academic objectives in a structured or semi-structured environment. Study Table time should lead to effective learning and should enhance overall academic success. Student Athletes have very busy schedules and we want to ensure that time spent in SADC is productive. The Study Table environment should be beneficial to independent studying, in addition to meetings with mentors and tutors. The goal of the Study Table Program is to ensure a professional environment that is conducive to an effective and efficient studying experience. Possessing a familiarity with the course content prior to attending class allows student athletes to focus on asking additional questions and gaining mastery when in class with the instructor. Using tutor appointments to review and discuss material before it is covered in lecture, is extremely beneficial. Classes become more challenging as the semester goes on, workloads increase, and class work builds upon earlier material. In order to be successful in class, staying ahead of coursework is essential. It enhances student-athletes’ educational experience through proactive preparation, continuous engagement, and reinforcement with course materials. The Tiger Tutor Program is designed to provide ongoing academic support, study skills development, and encouragement for academic success. Tutoring and additional assessment of skills will be provided for student-athletes as deemed appropriate. Information regarding grades, attendance, and overall effort is requested periodically from professors. The SASS Counselors monitor and forecast the academic progress of student-athletes. Since all changes in coursework must be in compliance with the rules and regulations of Auburn University and the NCAA, student-athletes must meet with their assigned SASS Counselors before making any changes to their schedules. SASS Counselors provide guidance in choosing a major, progression toward a degree, and dropping, adding, and withdrawing from courses. Student-athletes should make an appointment to see their assigned Dean's Office Advisor, as well as their SASS Counselor prior to registration each semester. SASS Counselors provide direction for student-athletes, preparing them to better comply with Auburn University, Southeastern Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures. In conjunction with the student-athlete's specified Dean's Office Advisor, SASS Counselors monitor course registration and long-range academic planning. The Student-Athlete Development Center is located within the Athletics Complex at 392 South Donahue Drive near the intersection of Donahue and Samford.Įach student-athlete is assigned to a Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) Athletics Academic Counselor located in the Student-Athlete Development Center (SADC). ![]()
